The Roots feat. Mos Def - Double Trouble

Yasiin Bey.
Still a huge fan of Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def, but im not sure i really dig how much he now “preaches” rhymes about his religion. This is not because he is Muslim, i have nothing against the muslim religion i just dont particularly like when any one be it Christianity, Hinduism or Buddhism talk about there religion in a way of it being the correct path or answer. Luckily this is not something i have noticed Yasiin doing, he is more talking about his personal journey through his religious beliefs and how it has shaped his view on the world. This i find quite interesting more then anything else. Religion can be a great then when it is practiced in a proper way.
Keep on doing your thing. Much Love.

Interview with Yasiin Bey: The Year of the Underdog

After almost two decades in the game Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, has seen many ups and downs in the ever demanding music industry without compromising his art. Due to his thought-provoking rhymes in regards to social and political issues, the Brooklyn native belongs to hip-hop’s elite rhymesayers. Having recently rejoined with his frequent partner in rhyme Talib Kweli to resurrect Black Star and a new series called Top 40 is officially making its mark on the music game. We caught up with Yasiin and conversed about his latest music endeavors.

Me and Mos are focused on independence and quality of sound. We’re really into a Madlib/Dilla thing right now. Anything you hear from us is probably going to be that type of sound. And it’s about independence, so we are trying to find out the right mediums to get the songs out. When you heard “Fix Up” on Colbert, it wasn’t even mixed; it was something we recorded a week before. Now we’re at the mixing stage of the song and we are going to put that out ourselves. We have a bunch of songs recorded. We are just trying to figure out the best way to release them, whether it’s going to be one by one, EP or album. Right now, the plan is to release “Fix Up” and then Yaasin is working on a Yaasin Bey Presents project and then we’ll see how it goes.
